A Study on the Gender Education for Elderly Women: Through Feminist Pedagogy Strategy

Abstract
This study aims to provide gender education for the elderly women, and to explore changes in gender awareness through the education of the elderly women and the possibilities of gender education. To this end, a group of reading discussion programs were conducted based on feminist pedagogy strategies centered on learners, discussion, critical reflection and practice. Reading discussion group program was held 10 times every other week from May to September 2019 at the welfare center for senior citizens in Seoul. The data were collected in four types: program course records, individual interview records, field notes, and participants' reading records, which were analyzed by qualitative case study methods. According to the analysis results, the elderly women are moving away from patriarchalism to pursue the value of gender equality and generation equality for family maintenance, and gender education has led to exploring the possibility of life in old age as individual subjects, and actively participates in a group based on feminist pedagogy. In conclusion, gender education of the elderly women can be seen as contributing to the enhancement of gender awareness and community involvement. Based on this, it proposed the implementation of gender education, the elimination of age discrimination and gender discrimination in the community for the meaningful life of female senior citizens.
